Mark Campbell has earned an outstanding reputation in the crowdfunding world. Presently, he is the Marketing VP at InventureX- a company that has helped business owners achieve their crowdfunding targets for the past seven years.
A serial entrepreneur with a proven industry track record, Campbell has overseen the launch of hundreds of product ideas and recently featured on Entrepreneur.com and Forbes. He studied at California University, gaining Bachelors degrees in Business Administration and Philosophy, before attending the Lloyd Greif Entrepreneurship School and the Sloan Center, studying online retailing. He finished his post graduate education at Fudan University in Shanghai, gaining a Certificate in International Business.
We caught up with Mark this week, to talk about why crowdfunding is so fascinating:
Could you explain to people who are unfamiliar with InventureX, what the company does?
Essentially, we serve businesses that have crowdfunding campaigns set up already, or that are planning to launch them. We handle the marketing side of things, to get the campaigns seen by as many people as possible, who might be interested in supporting the projects.
What motivated you to pursue this career?
As a child, I was always attracted to the concept of entrepreneurship. I heard many tales of people who had started from nothing and succeeded, and I read numerous business related books too. I thought it was great how small ideas can make a huge impact, with the right amount of focus, and this probably drew me to this industry.
I never fail to be impressed by ingenious product ideas that have the potential to change the world. Working with clients who have these brilliant minds is an honor that I wouldn’t swap for anything.
What obstacles have you faced in your career?
Sometimes, I found it difficult to handle criticism and I allowed negativity to drag me down, which led to me missing out on key opportunities. Subsequently, I learned to regard criticism as a valuable experience, which took some getting used to at first. However, I did become more confident over time and my work output improved as a result.
Why do you like Crowdfunding so much?
The dynamic nature of the industry enables me to thrive. Often, due to the number of clients we have, my whole day is a non-stop roller coaster ride. I am presented with a series of excellent ideas, then I get to work to make them a reality.
It is a total adrenaline rush and nothing compares to it! Notwithstanding, we do have quieter periods as well. And, during these periods, I try to take a step back and analyze our broader strategy, to check that our approach is still working in the constantly evolving crowdfunding arena.
