5 Ways To Avoid Injuries At Work

Millions of people are hurt on the job every year in America alone. Depending on the severity of their injuries, they could find themselves no longer being able to work.

Interestingly, most of these injuries could have been easily prevented by practicing the right safety measures. Although part of the responsibility falls on an employer’s shoulders to keep their team safe, it’s also up to the employees to make sure that they’re following the right safety guidelines. Whether you’re an employee or an employer, here are some of the best tips for avoiding injuries on the job.

Don’t Cut Corners

If you’re in a hurry to reach a deadline, it can be tempting to cut corners. However, taking shortcuts to get the job done faster can often lead to serious injury. Rushing can result in accidents due to missed steps. Don’t allow your employees to take shortcuts under any circumstances, and make sure that you report anyone who you’ve seen neglecting the safety process.

Accidents can be a domino effect. One kink in the chain can lead to a whole slew of problems amongst multiple employees. Remind your team that safety guidelines are put in place for a reason. Skipping essential steps is putting the entire team at risk.

Conduct Drills

Drills are a way of preparing employees for specific scenarios. It’s important that your staff has drills regularly so that they are well versed in what to do in an emergency situation.

Emergencies can be anything from fires to earthquakes. Make sure that you have a drill for each so that people aren’t running around in confusion the day an actual emergency hits.

Report Problem Areas

It’s up to employers and employees to keep their eyes out for potential problems. If you see anything that could result in an accident, it’s important that you report it as soon as possible. Any unsafe areas should be repaired, and any inappropriate way of doing things should be reported.

It’s everyone’s role to play a part in the greater good of the team’s well-being.

Conduct Safety Training

It’s important that you train your employees on proper safety guidelines. You can’t expect them to follow rules that they’ve never been taught. In addition to conducting thorough safety training, you should also make sure that safety guidelines are posted visibly, where everyone can see them.

Conduct Inspections

One of the most common reasons for accidents on the job is faulty equipment. It’s important that regular inspections are conducted to ensure that all equipment is in working order. If something is out of order or requires repair, it’s critical that it’s done as soon as possible. Until it’s been repaired, no one should come into contact with the faulty equipment.
