Crowdfunding is all the rage these days. Entrepreneurs and inventors love the fact that they can raise a lot of money in a short amount of time. Of course, it is more than just coming up with a great idea. In order to really have success in this business, marketing is key.
That is where Grant Lawson, and his company InventureX, come in. He is the lead crowdfunding strategist for the company. He recently answered a few questions about what he does and about the business in general.
What exactly is your company’s goal when working with clients?
The simplest way to put it is that we are doing whatever we can to make sure that their campaign is a success. Since crowdfunding is so popular these days, there is a chance that even great ideas can go largely unnoticed. We know exactly who to put ideas in front of in order to get the ball rolling with financial backing.
Strategy really comes in the play when trying to market certain products and ideas. We have a number of methods that we use, depending on the campaign and the fundraising goals.
It’s obvious that online crowdfunding has really changed the game for a lot of people. What’s something you’ve really seen change in the last year or so within the industry?
I really think people are being smarter with their money. We went through a bit of a wave where people were really just spending a lot of money and sometimes not seen much in return. People are held much more accountable, and that probably helps in the long run. The best ideas are going to rise to the top.
Some first-timers complain that crowdfunding veterans are dominating too much. How can first time inventors and entrepreneurs succeed?
That is one part of the business that we do a very good job with. Partnering up with a marketing company like us automatically eliminates the new factor for a person. We have built up a strong reputation online as many people know us and will be much more trusting backing an idea we are helping out with.
What type of expectations should a person have when working with InventureX?
Every single client we have should understand that we will give it our all to make sure that their campaign is seen and do our best to reach funding goals. There are obviously no guarantees with getting a certain amount of financial backing, but our experience and approach is a proven way to have the best overall odds to achieve success.
Do you have a preferred crowdfunding platform?
Personally, I don’t. I know this is a neutral answer, but I think the main ones all have their positives in their own way. The crowdfunding platforms are so competitive these days that if one makes a change, the other is not far behind.
For people thinking about starting their own campaign, the best suggestion would be to try a few of the main options out and see which ones seems like the easier fit and has the most traffic related to the category and vertical of your project.
